It always was so interesting to me as a mother of two young kids how many times people would come up to you and tell you to "Enjoy them while they are this age, they grow up way too fast."
You sort of "yeah whatever" them in your mind because honestly, there are times as a parent of a toddler or little kid that are so tough that you honestly feel yourself almost wishing the days away because you just don't know how you are going to get through them. I know some of this is because of the fact that Chris and I had the boys so close together and Connor was such a challenging baby, toddler, kid....whatever.
Here I sit as a mother to an almost 7 and 5 year old and I look at pictures around the house and all of a sudden it hits me. Connor is going to Kindergarten in just 6 short months. I have worked from home since CJ was born. I have spent my days juggling work and being a mom. In just 6 short months I my house will be empty from 8:15 to 3:35 pm. Quiet.
And now, all of a sudden I wished I had listen to what others had told me. I wish I would have enjoyed those first steps more. I wish I would have enjoyed those middle of the night feedings while they lasted. I wish I would have enjoyed all of the hours that they wanted to be all snuggled on your lap. I wish I would have enjoyed those little shoes and those button in the crotch one piece outfits. I wish I hadn't been in such a hurry to see what they were going to do next, or to get them into their bigger car seats, or for them to graduate onto the next level of preschool. I wish they still needed me to cut up their food, or give them a bath, or feed them a bottle.
Watching them grow up from infants, to toddlers, to little boys has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I just wish I had been a better listener. I wish I would have taken the advice to "enjoy them while they are this age" more seriously.
They were all so right.
My little babies are now little men, and although I am so proud, I just wish I had enjoyed the "small" moments of the past 7 years that much more.
They DO grow up way too fast.
